Health + Benefits
Extra Virgin Olive Oil is a key component of the “Mediterranean Diet” and is a staple of every Italian household. Using Olive Oil in conjunction with fresh fruits and vegetables, nuts and fish reduces the risk of heart disease, certain cancers, diabetes, Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s diseases.
The health benefits of pure Extra Virgin Olive Oil are well established.
Numerous studies have shown that just two tablespoons of 100% Extra Virgin Olive Oil each day significantly lowers our risk of stroke, Type 2 diabetes, and heart disease. High in a type of fat known as monounsaturated fat, Olive Oil can help lower your cholesterol and control insulin levels in the body.
The phytonutrient in olive oil, oleocanthal, mimics the effect of ibuprofen in reducing inflammation, which can decrease the risk of breast cancer and its recurrence.
Recent studies indicate that regular consumption of olive oil can help decrease both systolic and diastolic blood pressure. Although the reasons are still not fully clear, recent studies have proved that people with diets containing high levels of olive oil are less likely to develop rheumatiod arthritis.
However, it is important to understand that the health benefits of Extra Virgin Olive Oil are only realized by consuming PURE Extra Virgin Olive Oil.
As discussed previously, many, many of the commercially labeled brands of “Extra Virgin Olive Oil” may contain 10% or less of actual olive oil with the rest being made up of various oils and additives to make the oil look like olive oil and deceive the unsuspecting consumer. Read the label and know what you are buying!
Our first experience with truly fresh, 100% pure Extra Virgin Olive Oil was in a local restaurant in Caprese Michelangelo when Alfredo (restaurant owner) proudly brought a bottle of this bright green luminescent oil to our table to try with our fresh Italian bread.
Dipping our bread in this oil was like NOTHING we had ever experienced. It was truly an awakening to a whole new taste experience. It was soooo delicious.
While many novice olive oil consumers think that Olive Oil or Extra Virgin Olive Oil is just a healthy substitute for their normal vegetable oils used for cooking/frying food, the fact is, fresh, pure 100% Extra Virgin Olive Oil is way too delicious to waste in a skillet.
One of our most memorable experiences was “tasting” Extra Virgin Olive Oils led by one of the foremost Tuscany Extra Virgin Olive Oil sommeliers. It was amazing the difference in the “oils” from various regions of Italy and the world.
Since then we have learned from our Italian friends that using olive oil for nearly every food is the way “they” do it.
Starting a meal, there is always the fresh bread but NEVER butter. Dipping bread in fresh olive oil, slightly salted and sometimes with a little balsamic vinegar is the perfect beginning to a meal.
Since antipasto is as key to an Italian meal as the main course, a little oil on your prosciutto, artichoke and even cheese just adds to the flavor.
Of course the addition of pure, premium olive oil on pasta is well recognized as well as the use of olive oil as a key ingredient in Italian ragu.
What was a delightful surprise was the sole use of fresh extra virgin olive oil and a little salt and pepper as the only “dressing” for salad. It tastes so good. An equally wonderful surprise was the addition of a little drizzle of fresh “oil” on top of soups.
And of of course, since Tuscany is famous for its Bistecca Fiorentina, even the addition of a little Extra Virgin Olive Oil on your steak just makes it taste even better! So as you can see, it is very easy to get your two tablespoons of pure extra virgin olive oil each day for your health and happiness.
Hair + Skin
Olive oil has long been used as a great way to promote skin health. It also helps the skin of your scalp, and that can in turn boost the health of your hair. Olive oil, as part of a regular hair care regimen, can help your hair and scalp reach their healthiest potential. Make olive oil for hair growth a regular priority in your hair care. Here are just a few things that olive oil can do:
Prevent DTH Hormones Production. A hormone called DTH is the culprit in many cases of hair loss, as it causes the hair follicle shaft to narrow. Olive oil actually stops this from happening, which means you can hold onto your hair for longer.
Promote Scalp Health. Olive oil is loaded with antioxidants, which can keep the skin of your scalp in better shape. It can even reduce the damage done by hair care products or overuse of styling products.
Naturally Condition the Hair. Olive oil can make your hair shiny and soft. That’s why it has been used for centuries as a natural hair conditioner.
Fight off Fungi and Bacteria. Dandruff, head lice and other adverse conditions can contribute to hair loss. Fortunately, olive oil fights off all of these things, helping keep your hair healthier.
Improve Blood Circulation. Olive oil massages can improve the blood circulation in your scalp. This increased blood flow can stimulate the follicles, which then produce thicker strands.
